There is pressure building up in the live music industry about the ethics of certain business models and practices; indeed there is more focus on live in general because of decline in recorded music revenues. There have been experiments, such as that carried out by Topspin and the Pixies at the Troxy last year, where tickets were sold only via the official website, at a single price of £30 (no surcharge) and the whole event was paperless (unless fans chose to print of their ticket).

Obviously, whether this could be rolled out across an entire industry is doubtful- whether it would even be preferable is also questionable. But there are more debates going on about live ticketing, two pieces of legislation being considered that I’m aware of, and a growing unease amongst music fans that they’re being played by the system.

Currently the most annoying abusers, being companies that masquerade as legal organizations, one being Ticketmaster, that direct unsuccessful members of the public to over priced tickets and call it the secondary market, its called ticket touting where I come from

The Bill was debated on 21 January 2011 but ran out of time. It will be on the Order Paper to resume its Second Reading debate on 13 May 2011.

I’m happy for the good work you are doing and for the beautiful reunions, parties of Fac.

I have talked always about FAC for all my friends on my pages dedicated to Ed O’ Brien and Radiohead and posted pictures, notes, videos, etc…there.
